Match Reports - 2011-12 Under 7s Hurricanes and Tornadoes

Below is a list of all the match reports that have been done for the under 7's over the course of the 2011-12 season...

2011-10-01       Darley Dale Juniors U7s Tornadoes 2:0 Tansley Juniors U7s

The game against Tansley provided a tense first half as the attempts Tornadoes to find the back of the net eluded the team despite a host of chances. Elliot enjoying a confident game pressed hard without reward, as did James who was unlucky not to convert a cross whipped in by Harrison. Tansley attacked on the break whenever they could, however the defensive partnership of Josh Heath and Joe seemed impregnable to their advances. Iggy Hersey, goalie and captain for this encounter, was seldom stretched to make saves, but made his presence felt through strong goal kicks that found his forwards in typical route 1 fashion. Thomas and Harrison held the midfield areas against Tansleys ‘enthusiastic’ tackles by their number 4, but were unable to convert chances on goal. Changes at half time brought Olly and Jack into the fold, and their tenacity and strength soon found reward. Josh Heath, in his more familiar role as striker, was able to convert from close range – like a dog with a bone he refused to give up and after several hard fought tackles in the area eventually found the net with a low drive. Tansley fought back hard, but were unable to breach the Darley Dale defence thanks to the fancy footwork and confident skills of summer signing Joe, whose vision and control under pressure outplayed the onrushing Tansley forwards. The score could have been 4 or 5 had the tornadoes been luckier, Iggy roaming out of position as goal hungry defender crossed the ball, both Jack and Josh saw chances fly wide, Thomas and Harrison fought hard but it seemed that a tense finish was the order of the day. The hard work paid off in the end however, as Josh Heath, predator that he is, let rip with a long range shot from the edge of the area. Tansley’s last contribution was to pick the ball from the back of the net- as soon as they kicked off from the re-start the ref blew for full time. The 2-0 score line didn’t necessarily reflect the efforts of Tansley nor the chances for Darley, but was just reward for the boys, particularly Josh and also Joe, who picked up a deserved Man of the Match award for his fine efforts on the day.
